Posted 6 days ago by Prescott Should we expect a zero recent average credit? I would think a restart would not be unexpected... |

Best CPU vs Price for Primes!

Posted 1 Mar 2024 by Prescott Glad to hear I helped you! That is a pretty neat project. Thanks for sharing! That is impressive amount of time on SRbase and the 1.3 Billion in credits is not bad either! :) What is your current goal? |

Posted 29 Feb 2024 by Prescott Glad to hear I helped you! I use to give each core a task, but I found that giving larger tasks more cores really helped with completing them in a timely fashion. You can find information on how to do that with this post: https://srbase.my-firewall.org/sr5/forum_thread.php?id=6&postid=3795#3795 You can choose to give each workunit app a different value of cores to use and concurrent tasks to run. I ended up giving all tasks 4 cores and limited the concurrent instances to (Number of cores/4)-1 so that the TF task would run on the GPU. |

change for reporting primes at T5K
(Message 9458)
Posted 4 Jan 2024 by Prescott What is CRUS, where do I create the account and do I create the name Dingo in my case. For us that have no interaction with CRUS or the TOP5000 Primes except for Primegrid doing it for us. CRUS stands for "Conjectures R' Us". It is the project that helped(?) start SRBase. The coolest thing about SRBase is that if you find a prime. You get to claim it! I have found two so far! (check Signature) It made my month each time! It does take a bit of trying to figure out the reporting, even with the instructions, but it is worth it. Best place to start is here: https://www.mersenneforum.org/index.php Make an account and post questions - someone will answer you. What Rebirther is talking about is instead of using the LLR tag when reporting you would use the PRST tag - this gives credit to those who helped (you) find the Prime(!). |

Posted 1 Jan 2024 by Prescott I bought a pre-built refurbished HP Z840 dual socket from a reseller. I wish it was a local supplier! I would definitely visit to pick it up directly. Absolutely! The vendor is https://pcserverandparts.com/. The only downside I have seen so far is they don't have a lot of post-commercial use Ryzens yet. |

Deadline change on S79?
(Message 9415)
Posted 26 Dec 2023 by Prescott
No penalty, that was just the percentage of works units lost to error "Not started by deadline" over work units completed between database purges. Looks like Rebirther found and fixed the error. |

Deadline change on S79?
(Message 9404)
Posted 24 Dec 2023 by Prescott I have this problem since I turn off my machines for ~7 hours to avoid very punitive peak time electricity pricing. I have been experiencing ~10% work unit attrition with the new deadline. I do know the inefficiency is because of the 2023 Goal... Rebirther has promised a return to the norm. I am not concerned. |

Posted 21 Dec 2023 by Prescott I bought a pre-built refurbished HP Z840 dual socket from a reseller. Yes! It has been up and running for ~8 months now and has gotten ~63M credits. A lot of the credits were from TF, but it definitely does CPU tasks well with dual E5-2698 v3 16-core CPUs. |
