With that config file, you are allowing each of the srbase tasks to run 7 tasks concurrently. This does not restrict srbase to only 7 processors in total. For instance, Riesel Base and Sierpinski Base could each run 7 tasks.

To avoid losing work due to task switches, you can set the flag "Leave applications in memory while suspended".

These apps use very little memory and will continue where they left off, even with no checkpoint.

900 credit per wu instead of 5

I also don't understand why reducing the time helps us to get long running tasks back any earlier.
I have a bunch of R648 tasks that seem to be stuck at 99.999% with time remaining 00:00:00 with a running time so far of over 45 minutes.

You can look at stderr.txt in the appropriate slot folder to see what percentage of processing has been done. (And that can then be used to calculate an approximation of the remaining runtime.)

One method is to change your project preferences to not run the short tasks.

One thing I do in circumstances like this is to use app_config.xml to restrict how many short tasks can run at one time, thereby ensuring that a set number of processors remain to crunch the longer tasks.
