"GPU tasks don't work on Apple silicon" some (very few) projects have implemented GPU tasks for M macs with apple GPU and AFAIK it works.

SRBase didn't do this so why are you saying this here ?

And by the way the new mac CPU app (for the boinc project) is working just fine :)

Also, you might want to know Mac users version of the BOINC client; I'm running BOINC v7.24.4
If you run the v8.x version of BOINC for PrimeGrid, on the Mac, you can't run GPU tasks, so the Mac users can't move to v8.x on PrimeGrid w/o losing access to GPU tasks :(

I have latest boinc version on my Intel iMac (even the last dev version to test docker app from LHCdev but there are issues) and I have no problem running boinc GPU apps ? I did some PG "not long ago", I must test again but I'm surprised.

Or is this an issue with M silicon macs ?

I had done the same, but I did it once again, and it changes nothing : as soon as I run the command to execute the app I have a popup message (on top of the terminal) that tells me the message I explained above, with only 2 options : terminate or delete the file (!) so I choose terminate and (of course)

zsh: killed ./prst_boinc -boinc -fermat -check strong "50004228*85^2000+1"

I have macOS 15.3.1 on an intel iMac.

I don't know why but the img tag does not display the image I shared here on the forum ?

Phil how are you doing this ?

macOS security does not allow me to run it : I was able to add file security execution attribute for my user (with chmod), but then when I run the command (replacing - by _ because the actual file name is prst_boinc in the zip) I have a message "Apple could not confirm that prst_boinc does not contain malicious software" blablabla, then I found an option in dev tools to "allow terminal to execute locally a software not aligned with security of the system" but it doesn't change anything... ?

I would be glad to help but......

You are now probably aware that Timbo didn't want to bother you with any "boinc matter" considering your health condition.

But quite happy to see that you have the energy and will, thanks !

I just can't understand why the MT is not enabled / config by default and distributed with the standard app, it is just insane to try to run these monsters without the MT on.

Its only defined by the user, smaller runtimes are not affected by the -t command and are slower in runtime. Also every user has different amount of cores.

There are many mt projects that provide tasks/programs able to detect and use the available cores with their mt apps depending on each member machine. Obviously here it would only be interesting for these "long" tasks, not all apps.

Having to play around with config file (and I remember this one is really not easy to do) really limits the potential number of users willing to try to do this.

I did the app_config thing, I'll see what happens the next time I get some SRBase in my machine.

Thanks.

Regarding the mt : now I remember that, I even think I had implemented it long time ago. But obviously it got lost in my boinc setup somehow...

I will look at that solution again, thanks.

@Conan: I'm afraid that this task running on your machine is lost, when mine terminated (normally) it had been running at 99,99% for some time already but it was several days overdue, and the assimilator or validator (or whatever it is called) had no mercy...

Strangely the other 3 were still running at 99,99% when I decided to kill them - it made no difference for credit, maybe it did a difference for "science" and it was silly to do that by that time after waiting so long, but I was upset.

Yes I have an iMac (late 2009), HT is not an option here (you can't switch it off).

It is a problem ?

I think I remember this is not the first time I have that issue (never ending long 2 task), I have removed that app in my preferences.

(btw I forgot to say "hello" but i was a bit upset, sorry for that)

http://srbase.my-firewall.org/sr5/result.php?resultid=359194127

More than 11 days of calculation and "task declared too late" = 0 credit

WTF !!!

I had other 3 running with same duration, I just canceled them.

What a poorly developed application.
