I looked all over my pref and there is no "Run test applications" in the pref.

That is because the app that was showing as "(beta test)" is no longer showing that way (I guess the test is over?)
On some BOINC servers, such as here, when that is the case, the prefs no longer show that option.
The challenge with that is when you want to leave it permanently enabled, as apps in test come and go, you have to keep setting your prefs each time (which I've seen on other servers)

I got a message to use "Run test applications" for "R88_250-300k for a double check for Sierpinski / Riesel Base app" from BOINC message tab.
Oct 16 is when it started, and it didn't last long.
